
The Digital Transformation Consortium funded by the British Council, co-led by Phu Xuan University and Liverpool Business School in the UK, received strong support and reception in Vietnam at the Project Kick-off event recently held in Hue, Vietnam. The Digi:Đổi Consortium emphasizes the element of co-creation to build a national strategic roadmap, training and mentoring programs, as well as establish a widespread networking ecosystem and resources to set up a digital transformation system across Universities in Vietnam and the UK.
The UK Project Lead, Professor Tony Wall at Liverpool Business School, shared: “Our Consortium is part of the British Council’s Global Partnerships Programme, signifying collaboration and co-creation for a shared goal of creating societal impact. We aim to build a future-proof digital transformation center based on prosperity, inclusion, and net-zero carbon emissions.”

- Ho Thi Hanh Tien, Rector of Phu Xuan University, and Co-Lead of the Digi:Đổi Consortium, shared: “I affirm the importance of co-developing and sharing engaging digital teaching and learning activities to help our students achieve success while simultaneously internationalizing the teaching and research in our university. This also helps enhance the confidence of all staff, faculty, and students in a multicultural international working environment.”

The Digi:Đổi Consortium is one of the selected projects implemented to mark the 30th anniversary of the British Council’s cooperation and development in Vietnam, with the participation of many leaders and innovation experts in the field of digital transformation in the UK, Vietnam, and countries in the Southeast Asian region, including:
- Liverpool John Moores University – celebrating its 200th anniversary, LJMU participates in building strategies for integrating issues of prosperity, inclusion, and net-zero emissions, realized through the Collaborative Online Intercultural Learning, model, as well as building a research and mentoring network through the organization The Association of Learning Technologists
- Jisc – a UK digital partner, with 30 years of experience in building and contributing nationally to leadership capacity based on toolkits, framework programs, and research on trends and customer/user behavior.
- The Open University – with over 50 years of experience and expertise in building digital learning and distance learning platforms with the core value focusing on inclusive education.
- Association of Vietnam Universities and Colleges –is the unit connecting the network of university leaders, experts, researchers, and over 270 Universities and Colleges across Vietnam.
- DLCorp – a company specializing in digital transformation and digital libraries with core values for the community and creating strong social impact across Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries.
- Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (Indonesia) along with educational and technology experts from the ASEAN University Network (AUN), will support the sharing of technological applications and innovative solutions in digital teaching and learning in Southeast Asian countries.

Over 200 participants, including leaders, managers, specialists, and researchers from universities across Vietnam, attended the Digi:Đổi Consortium Project Kick-off Ceremony in both in-person and online formats, notably including the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, the British Council in Vietnam, and local government leaders.
The following are the reports presented by digital transformation experts from the UK and Vietnam at the recent Digi:Đổi Project Kick-off event:
- “Opportunities and Questions for Digital Transformation: from Business Models to Digital Learning Methods” – Tony Wall (LJMU)
- “Collaboration and Co-creation through Digital Platforms” – Katie Hyslop (LJMU)
- “Making the Inaccessible Accessible through Digital Learning” (The Open University)
- “Integrating Digital Learning in the 4.0 Era” – Mr. Truong Ngoc Hoang (Festo Didactic).
Vietnamese media reported on the Digi:Đổi Consortium Project Kick-off event, with the Vietnam Education Newspaper affirming the strategic importance of the digital transformation consortium as follows: “The project is expected to create a strong impact and contribute to enhancing digital transformation capacity for Vietnamese higher education, as well as creating a ripple effect in the ASEAN region and the UK.”
Also during the Project Kick-off Ceremony, practical professional experiences of leaders and participating delegates across Vietnam were shared and contributed, according to the Vietnam Education Newspaper: “In the exchange and discussion sessions, the project also recorded many enthusiastic opinions and shares from representatives of colleges, universities, high schools, and businesses.”
Mr. Pham Ngoc Lan, Standing Secretary of the Association of Vietnam Universities and Colleges (AVUC) agreed to participate in the project with an effort to contribute to the Digital Transformation Consortium, stating: “This is a key project that helps meet the practical needs of the Vietnamese University system, thereby enhancing capacity for future-proof integration.”
The visit and work schedule of the UK expert delegation in Vietnam also included visits to organizations corresponding to different digital transformation needs. The delegation held exchange sessions and listened to the aspirations of business owners where students and young workers, in general, are studying, interning, and working, visiting the following units:
- 3S Technology Company, a technology company supporting the digital transformation process of global partners.
- Hue Hope Cent3er (HOPE Center), a social enterprise supporting digital business capacity for people with disabilities.
- Lavin Home, a social enterprise supporting creative craft industry activities, building a community of hearing-impaired workers.
- Hue Imperial Citadel, attracting tourists with virtual reality technology, contributing to enhancing the experience and the need for a more authentic understanding of the UNESCO-recognized monument complex.

The success of the Digi:Đổi Consortium is realized based on the Collaborative Development Initiative of the Liverpool Business School aimed at creating positive impacts through universities, funded by the UK Quality Assurance Agency, and the Steering Committee of the European Symposium for Sustainability in Business Education where innovation is implemented through games and digital learning is shared and documented through the Springer Handbook.
Vice-Chancellor and Director of Liverpool John Moores University, Prof. Mark Power, shared: “The Digi:Đổi Consortium represents strong values such as learner-centered education, inclusion, community, and positive impact. This is an example of collaboration for a digital future that is already here. I will call on more partner institutions to join this powerfully transformative Digital Transformation Consortium.”
The ‘Digi:Đổi Consortium’ project is funded by the British Council’s Global Partnerships Programme (GGP) based on the findings of the ‘Digital Readiness in Vietnamese Universities’ report conducted by the British Council. The global GGP aims to build stronger, more inclusive, and more internationally connected higher education and vocational education systems. The GGP in Vietnam is implemented by the British Council in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Training to support the development and quality enhancement of higher education in Vietnam and the internationalization strategies of higher education in the UK and Vietnam.
