About REWORK
The project “Empowering Ethnic Minority Youth in Vietnam to Re-Vision the Future of Decent Work (“Re-WORK”) – of which Phu Xuan University is one of four key partners – has been approved by the British Academy.
Dr. Ho Thi Hanh Tien, Rector of the University, is a core member of the project, representing Phu Xuan University alongside Professor Tony Wall, University of Chester, UK, the project lead manager; Dr. Ngo Hang Nga, Tay Bac University; and Dr. Luong Minh Phuong, Hanoi University. The budget allocated for this project is £266,077 (approximately 7.5 billion VND). The project commenced in March 2020 and concluded in December 2021.

The project’s goal is to enhance the employability of ethnic minority students in disadvantaged areas prioritized for socio-economic development by the Vietnamese government. Re-WORK is an interdisciplinary and groundbreaking research project dedicated to improving the livelihoods/employment and social lives of ethnic minority youth in Vietnam. The research aims to foster coordination among stakeholders to create opportunities for marginalized students to share their aspirations with policymakers and researchers to advise on the development and refinement of fair and effective employment policies.
When the Voices of Ethnic Minority Students are heard
The workshop served as a meeting space among policymakers, educational institutions, businesses, and ethnic minority students. Here, leaders and students sat down and discussed the topic of employment for ethnic minority students.

The workshop was organized with an open approach, encouraging discussion and interaction among all parties. This was aimed at the following objectives:
-
Co-creating a new vision for the future of ‘decent work opportunities’ for Ethnic Minority Youth (EMY);
-
Sharing current effective programs/activities that support EMY in gaining access to decent work opportunities;
-
Co-developing an action program aimed at the future of decent work opportunities for EMY;
-
Promoting the proactive participation of EMY in the decision-making process for their own decent work.

Through the activities, ethnic minority students shared their perspectives. At the same time, students openly interacted and discussed with leaders from policy-making bodies, educational organizations, and businesses.
Many new perspectives and practical solutions were put forth through the workshop.
