The BIFA practical study and cultural exchange trip continues to bring PXU students new and extremely interesting experiences in Indonesia.

EXPLORING CULTURE THROUGH LOCAL CUISINE

Java Island, where PXU students are participating in cultural exchange, is a land rich in traditional Indonesian cuisine features. Besides exploring culture at the dining table and learning how to prepare some traditional dishes of this region, the “foreign” students had the opportunity to transform into locals with Rujak – a traditional Indonesian salad – through a cooking class with Mr. Sutrisno (UMG).
IMMERSING IN TRADITIONAL INDONESIAN MUSIC

Even more interestingly, students learned how to use traditional instruments such as the Saron, Bonang, Gong, and Kendang to accompany the traditional song “Gambang Suling”, and learned the traditional “Damar Kurrung” dance right in the cultural and art space of UMG, under the guidance of Art Lecturer Mr. Nanang Khoirul Umam and especially students from the Primary Education department of UMG.

Besides using foreign languages to communicate and handle situations abroad, the ability to understand culture through culinary experiences is also an opportunity for PXU students to connect with many countries through their own stories told through the unique tastes, colors, and sounds of the wonderful lands they travel through.
